Education & Outreach
T'ang Quartet partners with the National Arts Council (NAC) to make classical chamber music accessible to students through these programmes:
Arts Education Programme (NAC-AEP)
In this light-hearted and intimate workshop, students discover how instruments produce different sounds, tones and textures and understand a slice of classical music history. Through the personal sharing of the Quartet, they learn how society and personal expression influence the composers' works.

ArtReach Programme (NAC-Arts For All)
For NAC's community outreach programme, Arts For All, T'ang Quartet offers 2 strands of musical experiences, suitable for a range of ages:
Artist-In-School Programme (NAC-AIS)
T'ang Quartet seeks to work with schools to develop customised education programmes to enhance music appreciation. Schools can apply for a seed grant for such long-term projects under the National Arts Council's Artist-in-School Scheme.
Rhythm and Beyond
Rhythm is an important element of music. T'ang Quartet takes you on a fascinating journey through the music of famous composers to explore the captivating effects of rhythm.
This fun and informative programme covers music from JS Bach to Scott Joplin, from the cathedrals of Europe to the steppes of China. The audience is treated to special effects on the string family. Learn what a movement in music is, when to applaud and how composers use these sounds to weave a complex tapestry that reflects the pulse of life.
Music—Not So Abstract But Always Emotional
Music is abstract but deeply emotional. T'ang Quartet will take you on a thrilling emotional journey through pieces of music that pique the senses and captivate the mind. In this programme, participants will discover the stories that are carried by the musical pieces over time, through a narrative experience of evergreen examples such as Antonin Dvorak's The 'American' Quartet, Sergei Rachmaninov's Romance, Adagio by Samuel Barber (made famous as the soundtrack of Platoon) and the satirical Polka of Dimitri Shostakovich.
The Ensemble Dimension Project
To usher in a new phase, the Quartet is spearheading a new initiative under the umbrella of The Ensemble Dimension Project. These are a series of community and outreach programmes to inspire appreciation across a wider base of audiences, amateurs and aspiring musicians. Spearheaded by Founding violist Lionel Tan, the Ensemble Dimension Project includes two new specialized education programmes:
Highly-Strung
Highly-Strung is a training and scholarship programme for Singapore's promising young talents. An innovative chamber music programme, the programme will bring together talented music students of all ages and levels, instill in them the importance and the joy of ensemble playing, and provide a unique platform for musicians to perform in small groups. These groups will be given opportunities to play for the community as part of the T'ang Quartet's education and outreach programmes.
Stringfellows
Stringfellows is a chamber music professional training programme for high level students and young professionals. Successful candidates will receive specialized training and mentorship. They will also be offered opportunities and platforms to perform publicly with the T'ang Quartet, to prepare them for the next stage of their musical careers.
Music edifies the soul and uplifts the spirit, cutting across age and class.
The Quartet aims to embark on special community projects across ages and strata of society. We want to reach the elderly, underprivileged and destitute living in low-income public housing and rehabilitation centres across the nation, bringing chamber music to places where it would not normally be heard.
