Education & Outreach

T’ang Quartet partners with the National Arts Council (NAC) to make classical chamber music accessible to students through these programmes:

A) Arts Education Programme (NAC-AEP)

In this light-hearted and intimate workshop, students discover how instruments produce different sounds, tones and textures and understand a slice of classical music history. Through the personal sharing of the Quartet, they learn how society and personal expression influence the composers’ works.

B) Artist-In- School Programme (NAC-AIS)

T’ang Quartet seeks to work with schools to develop customised education programmes to enhance music appreciation. Schools can apply for a seed grant for such long-term projects under the National Arts Council’s Artist-in-School Scheme.

C) ArtReach Programme (NAC- Arts For All)

For NAC’s community outreach programme, Arts For All, T’ang Quartet offers 2 strands of musical experiences, suitable for a range of ages:

Rhythm and Beyond

Rhythm is an important element of music. T’ang Quartet takes you on a fascinating journey through the music of famous composers to explore the captivating effects of rhythm.

This fun and informative programme covers music from JS Bach to Scott Joplin, from the cathedrals of Europe to the steppes of China. The audience is treated to special effects on the string family. Learn what a movement in music is, when to applaud and how composers use these sounds to weave a complex tapestry that reflects the pulse of life.

Music – Not So Abstract But Always Emotional

Music is abstract but deeply emotional. T’ang Quartet will take you on an thrilling emotional journey through pieces of music that pique the senses and captivate the mind.

In this programme, participants will discover the stories that are carried by the musical pieces over time, through a narrative experience of evergreen examples such as Antonin Dvorak’s The ‘American’ Quartet, Sergei Rachmaninov’s Romance, Adagio by Samuel Barber (made famous as the soundtrack of Platoon) and the satirical Polka of Dimitri Shostakovich.
